Hi friends! My name is Hannah! I am a post-bacc research assistant at the University of Michigan doing experimental particle physics. Doing research full time was something I thought would take many more years and a few more degrees to achieve -- I am truly getting to experience my dream right now.
My group's work is in the relatively new field of paleo-detection: using ancient minerals to detect atmospheric and supernova neutrinos and search for WIMP dark matter candidates. It is very exciting to be part of a project on the ground floor, getting to help develop the experimental techniques! It is a truly multi-disciplinary study, involving theoretical, computational, and experimental particle physics, along with geology and materials science!
Before I started working for Michigan, I worked at a science center in my hometown designing, building, and (let's be honest, mostly) repairing interactive exhibits. I am passionate about sharing science, especially blue-sky research, with the public. Curiosity and excitement about the universe benefits everyone, and what better way to explore than through science? The aim of this page is to collect my side projects in science writing and educational game design -- my passion projects as I eventually pursue my PhD (fingers crossed for the upcoming application cycle!) and continue doing exciting physics research.
More to come soon, but right now I have to check on my TRIM simulation :S
